The Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe(ACCZ) has revealed intentions to be granted arresting powers from the Government to launch a manhunt on drug peddlers in the country.
ACCZ National Chairman Divas Chakwenya, revealed this during at a drugs awareness event held at Kuera Apostolic Christian Church located in Epworth.
This was held under the theme: “Role of the church in fostering peace and making a c all against drug abuse and and domestic violence(Romans 13 Vs 1-7)”
Addressing gatherers Chakwenya hinted that arresting powers would enhance the much needed capacity to track drug peddlers in the country.
“We are currently in the process to engage our Government to grant us powers to arrest those peddling drugs in communities. This will be our starting point in the fight against drug abuse and harmful practices across communities,” he said.
He also added that, his organization is also lobbying for adjustment of laws to push away bars and night clubs away from residential places.
“We are also approaching our authorities to enable laws to push bars and nightclubs away from residential places. These are our steps to fight against drug abuse and violence by young people in the country.”
