The Government has announced robust engagements to monitor the prices of 14 basic commodities in an attempt to make sure that consumers have affordable access.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni announced in a Press Statement on Wednesday.

“In an effort to enhance consumer warfare, The Ministry of Industry and Commerce continues to monitor the prices and availability of 14 basic commodities. The aim is to ensure that the consumer has accident to basic products at affordable prices.”

The Ministry is also concerned with the supply of Maize Meal in the country.

“On January 3 2024,  the Ministry held robust engagements with key stakeholders , including various  Government Agencies  and the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe. The purpose was to deliberate on the maize supply situation, a basic commodity which is required by the nation.”

The 14 basic commodities cooking oil, mealie- meal, bathing soap, beef, bread, chicken, eggs, fresh milk, laundry soap, rice, salt, sugar and washing powder.
