Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe believed in me and gave me a role that I never thought I could manage. Through their mentorship over the past 2 years, I have discovered the self-fulfillment of serving the community in a more sustainable way. Last year, I was honored with the Top CSR Officer of the Year award during the 2023 ESG Awards. Despite working in a male-dominated environment, PLZ has supported my career growth as a female. Additionally, my time at PLZ has exposed me to the Chinese working culture, which emphasizes productivity, results, and autonomy in the workplace. I am grateful for the opportunities and support I have received at PLZ.

In the past, the mining industry was known for being rough, remote, and male-dominated. However, as a woman in the 21st century, I have found success in this field. The mining environment now caters to my gender needs, allowing me to thrive in my role as a Safety practitioner. I have worked my way up the ranks and become one of the best in the industry.”

International Women’s Day is a globally recognized day that highlights the achievements and contributions of women in various fields. It serves as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and women empowerment in society.

“At PLZ, the female employees play a crucial role in the operations of the mine, and their dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed.” Said the General manager Mr Henry ZHU.

“As we celebrate the achievements of women around the world, let us also reflect on the importance of unity in our workplace. Regardless of nationality, gender, or any other differences, we are all part of the same team, working towards a common goal. Whether you are Zimbabwean or Chinese, your hard work and commitment are what drive our success as a company. Together, we can achieve great things and drive the development of Zimbabwe forward.
I also want to extend my gratitude to our male counterparts who work alongside our female employees. It is through collaboration and unity that we can create a work environment that is inclusive and supportive for everyone. Let us support and uplift one another, recognizing and respecting the diverse strengths and talents that each of us brings to the table. Let us work together in harmony, focusing on our shared purpose and commitment to excellence.
On this special day, let us reaffirm our dedication to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Together, we can make a positive difference not only in the success of our company but also in the progress of our country.
Let us always remember that unity is our strength. Regardless of our gender or nationality, we must work together as one team for the development of Zimbabwe. United we stand, divided we fall.”

To show their appreciation, the management team at PLZ decided to surprise the women workers with a small gesture of gratitude on this special day that include flowers, a hamper and special lunch.

The women workers were delighted and touched by the thoughtful gesture from PLZ. They were truly appreciative of being recognized and valued for their efforts in the workplace.

PLZ Assistant General Manager Rugare Dhobbie in a speech on the day expressed gratitude for the women workers and acknowledged their significant contributions to the success of the mine.

“I want to take this opportunity to specifically recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our female employees here at Prospect Lithium Mine. Without your passion, drive, and ambition, our mine would not be the successful operation that it is today.
Hence It is with great pride and admiration that I acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and resilience that each and every one of you brings to this team.

As the Assistant General Manager, I have had the privilege of working alongside so many talented and capable women. From our engineers and geologists to our operators and support staff, each and every one of you plays a crucial role in our daily operations.

But it’s not just about the work you do here at the mine. It’s also about the way you support and empower each other, and the way you lift each other up during both the good times and the challenging times. Your camaraderie and unity make this workplace a truly special and welcoming environment. If you are here and you are lagging behind holding the hand of another woman, its time you change make a difference by holding the hand of your fellow sister.

As we celebrate Women’s Day, let us continue to strive for gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity in the workplace. Let us continue to support and uplift one another, so that each and every one of us can reach our full potential.”

She emphasized the importance of gender diversity and equality in the workplace and vowed to continue supporting and empowering female employees.

I have been at PLZ for almost 2 years and I am grateful for the opportunities it has provided for women in a male-dominated environment. During my time here, I have gained a variety of skills, including the ability to cook dishes that blend both cultural influences. I currently work as a chef and supervisor in our department, where I have also learned how to decorate for events. When high-ranking officials from our head office in China visit, I am given the chance to showcase my cooking and decorating skills. Thanks to the experience I have gained at PLZ, I am confident in my ability to successfully open my own restaurant in the future, offering Western, local, and Chinese dishes.

Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe accepted me despite of my gender, race or color and I’m so grateful. I am a woman working at a mining company that is predominantly male, and I initially expected challenges. However, I have felt comfortable and safe in this environment thanks to the company. It has been almost a year and I am thrilled to see that my contributions, particularly in improving communication, are valuable. Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe has embraced me regardless of my gender, race, or color, and I am truly thankful.
