Harare, Zimbabwe – NetOne, the country’s leading telecommunications provider, has officially launched its 5G services. The launch ceremony, held on October 9, 2024, was attended by Honorable Vice President Rtd. Colonel KCD Mohadi, ministers, and key stakeholders.

Group CEO Eng. Raphael Mushanawani welcomed guests, emphasizing the significance of this milestone. “Today marks a monumental step forward, not just for NetOne, but for the entire nation of Zimbabwe,” he said.

The launch of 5G services reflects the government’s vision for a digitally advanced Zimbabwe, aligning with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1). Twenty 5G base stations are now operational across key areas, including Harare, Bulawayo, universities, Parliament, and airports.

Mushanawani highlighted the transformative impact of 5G on various sectors, including agriculture, industry, education, and healthcare. “Zimbabwe is leading, not following, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he emphasized.

The company has also deployed 275 LTE base stations under the National Mobile Broadband Phase 3 program and installed 140 solar-powered sites, expanding connectivity to remote areas and promoting sustainable development.

NetOne’s commitment extends beyond technology, with corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on community development, education, and poverty alleviation.

Honorable Vice President Mohadi’s presence underscored the government’s support for NetOne’s innovative efforts. Mushanawani expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s leadership and vision, saying, “Your guidance has made this possible, and we are privileged to be part of the journey.”

With 5G, Zimbabwe is poised to experience unparalleled connectivity, driving economic growth, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities. NetOne’s OneConnect solutions will empower sectors to excel globally.

The launch marks a significant step toward building a digitally inclusive Zimbabwe, with NetOne at the forefront of this revolution.

As Mushanawani concluded, “Together, we are building a digitally inclusive Zimbabwe, positioned for sustained prosperity. Today, we stand at the forefront of a revolution that will reshape the way we live, work, and connect.”
