Harare, Zimbabwe – As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, Cimas Health Group CEO, Mr. Vuli Ndlovu, has emphasized the importance of men undergoing breast cancer screenings, dispelling the notion that breast cancer only affects women.

At the Cimas Pink-Tober Breast Cancer Breakfast Meeting, Mr. Ndlovu stressed that early detection is crucial in saving lives. “Breast cancer remains a significant health challenge, but early detection can save lives. We are committed to providing accessible health solutions and educating our communities,” he said.

While male breast cancer is rare, men, especially older ones, should remain vigilant and get regular check-ups. Mr. Ndlovu highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, stating that breast cancer is treatable when detected early, but becomes more difficult to treat if diagnosed at a later stage.

The Cimas Pink-Tober Breakfast Meeting brought together cancer patients and survivors to share their personal journeys. Specialist oncologist, Dr. Webster Kadzatsa, was the guest speaker.

As part of their commitment to fighting breast cancer, Cimas Health Group is offering free breast cancer screenings for all Cimas members at its clinics across the country, as well as at selected Blue Zone facilities.

“Cimas Health Group remains committed to tackling cancer and related ailments challenges by offering accessible screening services and promoting education on the importance of early detection for both men and women,” Mr. Ndlovu noted.

Throughout October, Cimas Health Group will conduct campaigns aimed at educating the public about breast cancer, the importance of regular screenings, and early diagnosis.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer worldwide, with around 2.3 million new cases annually. The WHO launched the Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) in 2021, aiming to reduce mortality rates by 2.5% annually by 2040.

Cimas Health Group’s efforts align with the GBCI’s focus on health promotion, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive breast cancer management.

By providing accessible health solutions and promoting education, Cimas Health Group is dedicated to improving the well-being of Zimbabweans and contributing to the global fight against breast cancer.

Key Statistics:

  • 2.3 million new breast cancer cases annually worldwide
  • 70% of breast cancer-related deaths occur in resource-constrained settings
  • 2.5 million lives potentially saved by 2040 through the GBCI
