The Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference that kicked of on Tuesday this week, has given a sound platform for youths in Climate Change. This is being done in the form of a youth conference.
Green Youth Academy is the side event that brought together youths from different areas of work to devise ways to find inclusion in the current climate change programming.
Speaking to Spotlight Global News, Young Volunteers for the Environment(YVE) Melisa Murwira reiterated on the essance of the Green Academy side event for the young people in Zimbabwe and across the region.
“It is our fervent hope that the ongoing side event for the youths is to unlock a number of opportunities for young people in the current climate programming. Some of these are presented in the current NDCs which has gone economy wide. These ranges from waste sector, energy transition among other areas.”
According to Zimbabwe Youth Biodiversity Network Director, Knowledge Vingi, the side event will play an oversight role in allowing youths inclusion and participation in the current NDC processes.
“The youth are now pushing for their inclusion during the implementation of Zimbabwe’s Nationally Determined Contributions on Climate Change in the form of Capacity building programmes and initiatives.
“Through the side event we are beginning to see youth involvement on initiatives to do with Climate Change adaptation and mitigation. For youths to be actively engaged in some of these processes there is need of Capacity building programmes and initiatives to ensure a meaningful inclusion.”
